May and June 1979

During the spring 1979, Quebecers and Ontarians are preparing to welcome Nana on her tenth visit. On the different French Charts, enters her album "Une voix qui vient du coeur", including "Le temps qu'il nous reste", which became so popular. On the radio, "Un beau matin à la fraîche", her last single, is often heard. In recent years, her Canadian audiences has expanded and Nana shares her tours between east and west. And for the first time, she obtains a bigger impact in English Canada with a brand new album.

Right from its release, on April 10, "Roses & Sunshine" has an instantaneous success across the country. In the big stores, the poster is prominently displayed and it is played regularly. Even Quebec's record shops that usually hold her French products order it in large quantities. Nana's Eastern Canadian tour in May-June of the same year supports that event. Whether it be in Ottawa, Toronto and Hamilton, she gives numerous interviews. Each one of them, "Roses & Sunshine" is mentionned. This will be her first Canadian album reaching the double platinum status (200,000 copies). Nana also talks about a new disc recorded during her stay in Toronto. This one still remains among her released discs.

In Quebec, the poster of the last French tour, the photo on the album "Alléluia", is used for the promotion of her concerts. On April 28, the tickets go on sale at Place des Arts. The regular fans arrive early in the morning to be the first in front of the box office which opens at noon. Like every year, all tickets will be sold.

On the occasion of her coming, J. P. Beaulieu Musique, record shop located at Complexe Desjardins, dedicates to her a window with the cover of "Roses & Sunshine". Furthermore, in Nana's section, there are all her Canadian 33 rpm, as well the English as the French ones, and some twenty imported from France, England, Holland and Germany.

It should be noted that during years, her Canadian distributor imported the compilations Impact from France and Contour from England. In the late 70s, it was not uncommon to see European pressings in the records department of the big stores of Montreal like The Bay and Eaton. And, as always, in the shops of the Greek quarter, they stood all her LPs made in Greece.

During this tour, two magazines are available at the entrance of the concert halls; one in French (the one of Belgium in February) and one in English (the one of the United States the previous year). Both are similar and reprint press photos and record covers.

The concert is modeled on the one of the Olympia Theatre in Paris during the fall of 1977 with "Choros zeimbekidon" which opens the evening. In Montreal and Quebec City, with her French and Greek songs. In Ontario, with a majority of songs in English, such as during the last tour in the United Kingdom.

Almost every night, Nana wears a red Spanish-style dress and an embroidered sweater with a black skirt. As for its recording and its photos, her double live album, "À Paris" illustrates very well the concert presented here.

Since her first visit to Canada in 1965, Nana's success is growing. Besides producing album after album, she returns regularly on tour to present her new songs. Although similar to the others, the tour of 1979 coincides with her final breakthrough on the English Canadian record market. This will continue over the next decade. If Nana must cancel three concerts in Montreal due to a loss of voice, her admirers will see her again during the next North American tour in April-May 1980.
