English Repertoire

Nana recorded her first English songs at her beginnings in Greece. In the 22 albums released between 1962 and 2018, she performed songs written for her and those of her favorite songwriters. She also covered different musical styles such as jazz, country, classical and gospel.

THE WHITE ROSE OF ATHENS

The English version 1969 of "Weisse Rosen aus Athen" is the most famous. In her concerts, Nana sings it to please her audience. She recalls that it has been for her like a passport to make career worldwide. Set the first one in most English compilations, it's also the title of various records. Like in French, Nana re-recorded it with her ensemble The Athenians. This flower, a symbol of her origins, brought her luck throughout her career.

TRY TO REMEMBER

During her three years of touring with Harry Belafonte, Nana was seduced by the performer and his Repertoire. A specific song, melancholic, moved her. It reminds September of yesteryear. From her first solo concerts, in 1967, she included it in her program. Since then, wherever she is, it's one of the successes that the audience likes to hear again.

TURN ON THE SUN

In 1970, that title was proposed to the singer Mary Hopkin presenting Great Britain at the Eurovision Contest. It wasn't chosen and Nana agreed to record it. This catchy tune varies her Repertoire which includes mainly Love songs. Need we recall that Nana is a daughter of the sun?

FOUR AND TWENTY HOURS

The choice of that lovely ballad might seem surprising since it's not part of an original LP. Released in eight countries, the 45 rpm went gold in New Zealand. This is an exceptional fact because Nana uses to be rewarded for her album sales.

THE THREE BELLS

"The three bells" is an original French song that tells the story of the little Jimmy Brown in three stages: his birth, his marriage and his death. In the Netherlands, in particular, it was very successful. In 1974, during a telethon, Nana sang it three times to encourage viewers to make donations. Winner of the Golden Tulip, the song was the selling cut of the 33 rpm "Nana's Book of Songs" which went platinum set with diamonds. It came out on single in six countries.

NICKELS & DIMES

To break in the USA, Nana believes that it is necesary to find the right song, the one that the radio hosts like. That catchy country of Dolly Parton hasn't launched definitively her career there. However, several stations played it during the summer of 1979. The orchestration and the interpretation prove that Nana can do as well as North American singers.

ROSES LOVE SUNSHINE

This is an adaptation of the country "Down in the Valley" previously popularized by the group The Brown. In addition to being the first title of her best selling record in Canada, it was set on the side 2 of the 45 rpm "Nickels & Dimes". During her concerts, the spectators recognize it from the first notes.

SONG FOR LIBERTY

Like in French, the English adaptation of Verdi’s "Nabucco" is an album title. It went gold in Canada in six months. After the mega success of "Only Love," in 1986, that classical was re-released through a video clip and on singles. It is also part of all compilations.

AMAZING GRACE

That Christian hymn became famous mainly by the African-American communities. From 1972, Nana sang it a capella in her concerts. In 1983, she recorded a studio version with a choir. In the United States, the television advertising for the collection "Return to Romance" began with an excerpt. People who didn't know her yet called the stations to find out who was that singer with angelic voice. In her Repertoire, there are 10 different recordings. On Youtube, it has been viewed more than ten million times.

ONLY LOVE

The English version of "L'amour en héritage" was number one in seven countries and made her gain popularity in Asia and in Latin America. In the United Kingdom, her records started again to be released. In 1991, it was released in the USA on the CD "The very best of" which became her best seller. Since then, various English compilations bear its name.

OH, HAPPY DAY

"Oh, happy day" was released at a time when television stations had few recent images of Nana in concert. That's why in the 90s excerpts of this video clip were widely broadcasted. In it, Nana sings with a choir while images remind eight happy moments of life. 45 rpm, maxi CD and maxi single supported the release of "Gospel".

OVER THE RAINBOW

Since 1993, Nana includes that classic in her concerts recalling the wonderful time when as a child she dreamed of being on stage. Thanks to her father projectionist, she saw all the movies. Nana remains impressed by "The Wizard of Oz". Nothing new, just a favorite that she wants to share with her audience. And when a jazz band accompanies her, she is fulfilled.
