National Order of Quebec - 10 years

«You are Quebecer.»

On May 28, 2013¸ Nana was received in the Red Room of the Parliament Building. On this occasion, the former Prime Minister, Pauline Marois, presented her with the insignia of officer of the National Order in recognition of her bounds created with Quebec and for her participation to promote our culture.

Excerpts from Pauline Marois' speech:

«Few artists in the entire history of mankind have done so much to bring people together by sharing the best they have to offer: their culture.»

«Early on, you…discovered a nation with a singular destiny that was then experiencing an unprecedented awakening. This meeting was…a mutual crush.»

«We were learning it by ourselves, but you reminded us that our culture, our very particular way of telling each other in French, was also our path to reach the universal.»

«You fell in love with Quebec and Quebecers have returned this affection to you. Since then, you have promoted our culture while singing tunes from our most illustrious artists…»

«You are Quebecer through your work, your humanity, your universality.»

«Today, the Quebec nation is humbly trying to give you back this love that you have given. Nana Mouskouri, it is an honour for me to welcome you and to present you, on behalf of the people of Quebec, with the insignia of officer of the National Order of Quebec.»

Excerpts from Nana's speech:

«Almost half a century ago, I discovered your beautiful country which gradually became mine…It was the beginning of a long story of love and respect…»

«I was influenced and enriched my Greek roots by your culture, its musical and traditional values by listening to Canadian artists, poets…»

«It is with my country Greece, Quebec and all of Canada that I would like to share this honoree distinction today.»

«Thank you for making me feel today that I am coming back home.»
