Among the Quebecers - 7

Since 1980, YVES JACQUES (1956- ) followed an imposing professional journey as actor in theatre, in movies and on television. The versatility of the roles he held made him as famous in France as in Quebec. We can see him in many of the big Quebec cinematographic productions of the last decade. Yves and Nana met on the CBC set in 1999.

LAURENCE JALBERT (1959- ) began her career at the age of 16 playing the organ in the bars. Little by little, she became a singer-songwriter. In 1990, she recorded the first of twelve albums. In 2019, "Au pays de Nana Mouskouri" (In the Land of Nana Mouskouri), in homage to her mum. Nana was her favorite singer and she listened to her every Sunday afternoon. In this opus, Laurence chose 13 tracks from the years 1968-1974 giving them a country sound. It's a nice way to remind them to the public and make them known to the younger generation.

In 1948, FRASER C. JAMIESON (1917-2005) established the Canadian subsidiary London Records in Montreal. During his 31 years at the head of the enterprise, with his team, he made of it one of the main record companies in the country. From 1963 to 1980, London took over the distribution of Nana's English and French productions. Mr. Jamieson often had the opportunity to meet her, especially for the presentation of her gold records and during her visits at the head office.

Since 1989, GUY JODOIN (1966- ) literally occupies the small screen with nearly 40 collaborations to his credit. Comedian, actor and host having taken part in several children’s programs, he is singled out for his marked sense of humour. Like most of the young people of his generation, he knew Nana through his parents' records. He interviewed her on his program "Sucré salé".

PANAYOTI KAROUSOS (1967- ) is a classical composer from Greece who settled in Montreal in 1990 in order to pursue his musical studies. He became known as a baritone soloist in the operas he composed. His renown as that of his symphonies now exceed national borders. It is the hostess Sonia Benezra who introduced Panayoti to Nana during a reception in 1999.

ALICE KOURY (1931-2004) spent much of her life to the development of the music market and to the promotion of musical culture. From 1948 to 1980, she assisted her husband, Fraser C. Jamieson, as vice-president of London Records of Canada Ltd.. During the sixteen years when London provided the distribution of Nana's records, Ms. Koury saw the expansion of her career from coast to coast. She also had the pleasure of meeting her.

At 18, when he abandoned his university studies, MARC LABRÈCHE (1960- ) decides to follow in the footsteps of his father, the comedian Gaetan Labrèche. From that moment, he’s requested in television series, movies, in theatre, but also for dubbing and narration. Since he is at the helm of his programs, he has the opportunity to show his talents of host-humorist. His audacious imitations don’t please everyone, but they are generally successful. Let’s think about Nana that he caricatured three times. A wig, a pair of glasses, some makeup, similar clothes and gestures well studied and that’s it! It took several takes before he succeeded, so that he shook with laughter.

DOMINIQUE LAJEUNESSE (1949- ) is the oldest daughter of Janette Bertrand and of Jean Lajeunesse, two important personalities of the artistic landscape of Quebec. Over the years, she has made a career of being a model and animator both in radio and television. Dominique has seen Nana in concert and interviewed her by telephone one day in 1983.

For forty-five years, PIERRE LALONDE (1941-2016) shared his professional life between stage, recordings and television. The variety show "Jeunesse d’aujourd’hui" made him an pop star idol amongst the young baby boomers, throughout the sixties. The passage of Nana on this TV show in 1969 inaugurated her two month long tour in La Belle Province.
